Thanks in part to the support of Health Net Federal Services LLC (Health Net), the government division of Health Net, Inc. and MHN Government Services (MHNGS), Health Net’s behavioral health division, more than 400 disabled veterans are expected to ski the Rocky Mountains at the 22nd National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic in Snowmass Village, Colo., near Aspen, from March 30-April 4.

Recently-wounded veterans from the War on Terror will participate in the event, which is the largest rehabilitation event of its kind in the world.

The clinic is open to all U.S. military veterans with spinal cord injuries or disease, visual impairments, certain neurological conditions, orthopedic amputations or other disabilities, who receive care at Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) health care facilities.

During the six-day program, veterans will learn adaptive Alpine and Nordic skiing and be introduced to a variety of other adaptive activities and sports, such as rock climbing, scuba diving, snowmobiling and sled hockey. The U.S. Secret Service will also teach a course on self-defense for people with disabilities.

Health Net and MHNGS will provide transportation, meals and incidental expenses for more than 200 first-time veterans and nearly 30 active duty combat wounded soldiers to attend the Clinic. Health Net and MHNGS will also provide a group of employees to volunteer throughout the duration of the event. MHNGS will offer on-site counseling services for veterans and their families.

"Health Net and MHNGS are privileged to continue supporting disabled veterans as sponsors of the 22nd National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic,” said Steve Tough, president, Health Net Federal Services. “Health Net and MHNGS are committed to improving the quality of life for America’s veterans by supporting programs that help disabled veterans achieve a fit and healthy life, and honor their service to our country.”

“We’re proud to have an opportunity to support our nations veterans,” said MHN President Steve Sell. “The men and women who attend the Sports Clinic are heroes who have sacrificed greatly on behalf of every American, and we’re simply humbled to have a chance to meet them and improve their lives.”

Health Net is proud to partner with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to achieve its vision of providing a continuum of high quality health care to veterans in a convenient, responsive, caring manner — and at a reasonable cost.

Health Net has a long track record of successfully reducing health care expenditures for community-based care provided to veterans throughout the country. The cost savings generated from these programs are returned to the participating VA Medical Centers, where the funds can further increase veteran access to patient care services.

Health Net also has a long record of helping VA enhance veterans’ access to high quality, cost effective health care by providing primary care, mental health and preventive health services at VA Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) located throughout the country. Health Net has been proudly supporting VA CBOCs for more than 11 years, and continuously strives for outstanding patient access, quality health care, and patient satisfaction.

Health Net administers high quality health care for active duty service members and veterans. As the managed care support contractor for the TRICARE North Region, Health Net provides health care services to nearly three million uniformed services beneficiaries, active and retired, and their families. Health Net works hard to understand the needs of the government programs it serves, and is proud to provide collaborative solutions that optimize the government’s health care system.

It is with sincere pride that Health Net Federal Services marked its 20th anniversary of providing quality health care services to the military community on January 19, 2008.

Health Net Federal Services was awarded the first demonstration contract in California and Hawaii under the CHAMPUS Reform Initiative (CRI), which led to the military health care program, TRICARE, and now extends across the United States and abroad to serve over 9.1 million beneficiaries. It is with honor and pride that Health Net has been able to partner this journey with the Department of Defense and continue to serve the TRICARE North Region today.

Health Net's In the Community Giving Program supports organizations such as the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) that support America’s military heroes and their families by helping them to achieve a fit and healthy life, and otherwise honors their service and sacrifice to our nation.

MHNGS collaborates with government entities worldwide to deliver solutions that drive behavior change. MHN has provided family counseling and advocacy services to military personnel and their families since 2004 and launched its Government Services division in January 2006 to support these programs. Through the Military and Family Life Consultant (MFLC) Program, MHNGS serves hundreds of thousands of military personnel and families worldwide. As a key subcontractor to the VISN 12 VetAdvisor Program (under prime contractor ThreeWire Systems), MHNGS performs telephonic outreach and Care Coaching support to returning OIF/OEF veterans in the Great Lakes area.

From supporting service members and their families as planes arrive from and depart to war zones, to aiding victims of domestic abuse at military installations nationwide, to supporting Department of Defense Education Association (DoDEA) to provide MFLC services in the DoDEA schools, Purple Camps and Guard and Reserve summer camps to children, staff, and parents. MHNGS' solutions for military families are unique in their global reach, flexibility and timeliness. MHNGS' management team is based in several offices throughout the United States and supports staff and programs at more than 100 military installations worldwide.

In addition to the generous host sponsorship of COMPANY NAME, the event is co-sponsored by the VA and Disabled American Veterans (DAV).

“We are blessed to have dedicated companies like Health Net and MHNGS who care so deeply for our nation’s sick and disabled veterans,” said DAV National Adjutant Arthur H. Wilson. “The commitment of Health Net and MHNGS to the Winter Sports Clinic will contribute greatly to the rehabilitation of hundreds of wounded heroes.”

The VA (www.va.gov) is a government agency that runs 1,300 health care facilities for veterans across the United States. DAV (www.dav.org) is a nonprofit, Congressionally chartered veterans service organization with a membership of more than 1.3 million wartime disabled veterans.
